Shoprite raised some serious dust recently with the denied report of its exit from Nigeria, the most populous African country with very youthful population and impressive middle class

Shoprite is the largest retail platform operation Africa with operations in 15 countries, including Nigeria with about twelve stores and counting.
Shoprite is known for offering brand of choice for many consumers across Nigeria at best possible prices. It also offers wide range of fresh products.
Since opening its first store at the end of 2005 in Lagos at The Palms Shopping Mall, Shoprite has expanded by opening more stores, across Lagos, Abuja and already to other major cities. The Nigerian FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) market is mainly geared towards supplying the informal sector, with very little formal retail sector involvement. Within 10 years, Shoprite have helped in enhancing the relatively small formal and organized retail sector in Nigeria and expanding rapidly.
Shoprite will be opening additional 14 new stores across Nigeria in the next 20months and also building a distribution centre in a bid to ease the movement of goods, particularly as regarding imported gods which may be delayed at the port. – This is according to a statement credited to Shoprite Holdings’ chief executive officer, Whitey Basson.
Shoprite opened its biggest store in Sub-Sahara Africa recently in Ibadan, south West Nigeria with 21,000 metre square retail space.
