Airtel Networks Limited, a subsidiary of Airtel Africa Plc, is a leading telecommunications services provider. It is a member of Airtel Africa, the holding firm for Bharti Airtel, India, with operations in 14 African countries.

The brand presently serves over 58 million subscribers with products offerings for both calls and data, including 2G, 3G and 4G wireless services, mobile commerce and enterprise services according to a July 2022 Nigeria Telecommunications Commission, (NCC) statistics, making it the second largest telecom brand by subscriber base.  Its services also include mobile commerce through ‘Airtel Money’.

 

It has network presence in all states of the Federation, Local Government Areas, major towns and villages in Nigeria. The company’s mobile networks cover over 70% of Nigeria’s population and its 3G coverage ratio is over 41%. The company’s distribution network spreads across over 40,000 retail outlets with well over 332,042 retailers.

In the Financial Year 2016- 17, Airtel’s network carried over 420Tb (Terabytes) of data volume.

 

On July 9, 2019, Airtel Africa, the holding firm of Airtel Nigeria and Bharti Airtel’s Africa subsidiary got listed on the main board of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) at an offer price of ₦363 per ordinary share. That value has enjoyed over 500% increase.

Airtel Africa is presently the most capitalized firm listed on the Nigerian equities market with a valuation of N7.16 trillion as at July, 2022. It’s also listed among the 100 most highly capitalised blue chip companies, FTSE 100 Index on the London Stock Exchange

It is driven by the vision of providing affordable and innovative mobile services to all and is supported in pursuing this vision by its largest shareholder, Bharti Airtel. Airtel Africa had over 110 million customers across its operations at the end of March, 2020.

Airtel is known for its Corporate Social Investments programmes, particularly its Adopt-a-School initiative, which seeks to provide a 360 degree approach for identifying, nurturing and developing the minds of underprivileged children across public primary schools.

Another is the Touching Lives initiative, its Employee Volunteer Scheme has also provided an outlet for its staff to directly participate in touching the lives of members of the many communities where it operates.
